Why not talk it out over lunch?

DEAR EDITOR:

At least for the time being, John Williams, the Donald Trump of Cobb, has withdrawn his application for a tax abatement in order to develop his $103 million Riverwalk project.

Unfortunately, the mess is painting a totally different picture of the John Williams of the past. For years, Williams successfully developed excellent projects in Cobb and earned an admirable reputation as a community leader.

So what’s really going on with him and why is he using the “F” word in public and acting like taking needed tax revenue away from the Cobb school system isn’t important? Why is he so unusually disagreeable over this project?

If nothing changes, the Riverwalk project, Williams, the school system, development authority, chamber of commerce, Cobb and many taxpayers stand to suffer when the project dies.

Perhaps if the development authority, school board, developer and Cobb Commissioners would suck it up, cool off and sit down and have lunch together, then maybe a bunch of potential losers can shake hands and turn themselves into a team of winners. A little give and take by everyone, a positive attitude and the project goes forward. It may sound like a dream, but isn’t it worth a try?

Maybe have a "beer summit" like Obama set up for the cop and the guy he harassed.
