The event pairs local artists with classes at Hickory Hills’ Fine Arts magnet in Marietta. Over a period of classes the artist and students work on a project together. The finished works are displayed at the museum and auctioned. As part of the event, Mayor Steve Tumlin hosts The Doodle Date where a student joins the mayor for a creative doodling lunch.
This is the largest fundraiser of the Parent Teacher Association at Hickory Hills. Funds raised are used to support student learning through the purchase of supplies and materials otherwise unavailable due to funding cuts. Last year, this grassroots group raised $4,000 to support the staff at Hickory Hills and purchased items such as costumes, drums and science lab equipment.
The museum is at 30 Atlanta St., Marietta. Visit mariettacobbartmuseum.org or call (770) 528-1444.
Out of the Box Theatre located in the Artisan Resource Center presents “Ariadne’s Thread,” a thriller for the mind by local playwright Marki Shalloe.
The play is inspired by May Jennings Bennett, a turn-of-the-century society matron with a taste for whiskey, Ouija boards and swindling priests. When a Jesuit priest begins visiting her in jail, Bennett leads him through a maze of new thoughts that leave him less able to go down familiar corridors ... but wildly, violently, divinely aware. This is a story of stepping out of one’s comfort zone and into the labyrinth of your own mind.
The play runs through Feb. 2 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $17 to 22 in advance or $20 to 25 at the door.
The Artisan Resource Center is at 585 Cobb Parkway South.
