On Dec. 15, servicemen and women and volunteers paused to remember and honor U.S. veterans. The Marietta Air Museum Cadet Squadron participated this year at the National Veterans’ Cemetery in Canton. Even with the frigid temperature and rain, the event was rewarding for the 11 members who participated as well as for the members of at least three other squadrons in Group 1 and the Group Commander Lt. Col. John Aden and his wife. Members honored servicemen and women interred in Section 7 of the cemetery by placing wreaths on their headstones. Members were asked to inspect the entire section and straighten any wreaths that weren’t placed well. Volunteers also spoke with several family members visiting the cemetery to honor their loved ones.
The Squadron then took wreaths to another cemetery in Canton to place on the grave of Iwo Jima Navy veteran James E. Palmer and also shared a special moment with Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Charles Talley as he placed a wreath on his father’s headstone.
This year, the squadron and their families and friends contributed 30 wreaths.
