The 38th Annual Superior Plumbing Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 12 and noon to 5 p.m. on April 13 in downtown Kennesaw. The event, co-sponsored by the City of Kennesaw and the Kennesaw Business Association, is a giant family-friendly festival with a variety of activities for all ages that plays up the rich heritage of Kennesaw and its important role in the Civil War.

There will be a Civil War Encampment at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History; a kid’s zone with inflatables for children of all ages; the Wildlife Wendy Tropical Bird Show with educational and funny shows; Brian Ruth, Master of the Chainsaw, transforming a four-foot log into a work of art using only chainsaws in less than an hour; and performances by Little General Cloggers, ETO Demo team, Kennesaw Mountain Cloggers, members of the Great Gig Dance Studio and other community groups. There will also be two entertainment stages that will feature performances by Baker, Chalker, Pickett’s Mill, Big Shanty and Hayes Elementary schools; and Awtrey, McClure and Barber Middle schools.

Kicking off the event will be a parade at 9:30 a.m on April 12 at Adams Park that will continue down Main Street through downtown Kennesaw. The parade will feature floats and more than 2,000 children representing every sport association and school in the area, pageant winners and the marching bands from Allatoona, Kell, Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb High Schools.

Admission is free.
