Marietta finds way to win in regulation

Marietta rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Stephenson 41-39 Monday in the Hoops N Overdrive tournament at Centennial High School.

The Blue Devils (16-3) took the lead inside the 2-minute mark on a Tyrell Tomlin layup and for the first time in four games avoided having to go to overtime. Marietta had played three straight tripleovertime games. Raynere Thornton had 20 points and 15 rebounds for Marietta.

Marietta will play at Hillgrove today.

Allatoona 65, Fayette County 57:

Allatoona came out flat to start the game against Class AAAA’s top-ranked Fayette County, but Rodney Brown helped carry the Buccaneers in the second half.

After trailing by three points at the break, Brown scored 10 of his 24 total points in the third quarter in helping Allatoona (19-0) outscore Fayette 19-9 to take the lead. Daniel Fowler had 19 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Bradley Brevet added eight points.

The Buccaneers will host Rome tonight in a Region 5AAAAA game.

Westlake 83, Walton 78 (2 OT):

Nick Wells three-point play with 4 seconds left helped the Raiders send the game to overtime, but they fell in double-overtime at the Hoops N Overdrive tournament at Centennial High School.

Walton (15-3) trailed 70-64 with 26 seconds to play, but Juanye Colon connected on a 3-pointer, and then after a defensive stop, Wells sent the game to an extra period.

After a scoreless first overtime, Westlake pulled away by making 11 free throws in the second.

Elijah Weems led all scorers with 27 points, Wells finished with 14, Jay Bowyer had 11 and Colon added nine.

The Raiders will travel to Etowah today.

Greater Atlanta Christian 69, Hillgrove 65 (OT):

The game was tied with 30 seconds to go before Greater Atlanta Christian won the game on the free throw line.

Kyle Castlin had 22 points to lead the Hawks and BJ Brown added 16 points.

Hillgrove (15-4) will host Marietta today in a Region 4AAAAAA game.
