MARIETTA — A Marietta man was arrested Monday by Cobb Police after they suspected he set fire to a couple’s home and his own car Dec. 20.

According to the warrant, at 1:30 a.m. Juan Espinal, 55, started a fire at the home of William and Dilcia Duprey on Brookhaven Drive off Bells Ferry Road.

Espinal is accused of setting the carport doorway on fire, “which had been doused with gasoline,” the warrant said.

The fire spread into the kitchen area of the home, while the Dupreys “were asleep inside the residence at the time and were awakened by smoke detectors and forced to flee the residence through the back door,” the warrant said.

Another blaze was started at the front of the home when Espinal’s 2012 Nissan, which is co-owned by his wife Iris Severino, was also intentionally set on fire, according to accusations in the warrant.

Espinal was charged with two felonies for arson and was denied bond for being a danger to the community, the arrest report said.
