The Buccaneers advanced to today’s semifinals and will face Rome at 11 a.m.
The winner will move on to face either South Paulding or Woodland for the championship. The loser will drop down to the consolation bracket to battle for “true second” in the double-elimination event.
Eleven wrestlers won for Allatoona — Harrison Kemp (106 pounds), Letrell Harris (113), Cody Anderson (120), Jarret Williams (126), Ethan Benedict (132), Jack Woods (138), Eric Vermette (145), Jacob Robinson (160), Will Kemp (160), Cody Webb (195) and Alex Valentine (220).
Marietta 68, Lovett 58: The Blue Devils kicked off 2014 with a 10-point win on the road behind Rayveon Thornton’s 15 points.
Cameron Jordan and Raynere Thornton each contributed 14 points, and Tyrell Tomlin added 10.
Marietta outscored Lovett 15-2 to start the game before going into a lull. After Lovett took a 31-30 lead at the half, Marietta picked up its play and outscored Lovett 19-10 in the third to reclaim the lead.
Marietta (13-1) will return to Region 4AAAAAA play at Pebblebrook on Tuesday.
Sprayberry 90, Sequoyah 71: Armel Potter scored 36 points to lead the Yellow Jackets in a Region 7AAAAA road win.
Potter also had six assists and seven rebounds.
Maurion Skrine added 12 points for Sprayberry (10-4, 5-0) and Wayne Jackson also finished with 12 points, plus seven rebounds. Nkem Ojeh had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, plus three blocks.
The Yellow Jackets racked up the points by hitting 14 3-pointers in the game.
Sprayberry, which will play at Kennesaw Mountain tonight in a non-region game, started quickly against the Chiefs and led by 14 at the half.
Kell 65, North Springs 53: The Longhorns broke open a close game in the third quarter on the road by outscoring North Springs 18-9 in Region 7AAAAA competition.
Kell attacked the inside in the frame with Grant Bryant scoring eight of his 13 points in the quarter.
Kendrick Summerour and Maurice Summerour also scored 13 points apiece for Kell. Qua Alexander was also in double figures with 11 points.
Bryant barely missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Kendrick Summerour had six assists and five steals, and Alexander had six steals and five assists.
Kell (5-8, 2-3) will play at Hillgrove today in a non-region game.
Allatoona 57, Rome 38: The Buccaneers got off to a slow start before a huge second quarter propelled them to a road win in Region 5AAAAA play.
Allatoona (12-0, 5-0) made adjustments and was able to convert steals into buckets.
Rodney Brown had 14 points to lead the Buccaneers, all coming in the first half. He often scored in transition in the second quarter.
Shamar Griffin had 10 points, with all his points coming in the second half. Daniel Fowler only had seven points, but he had 10 assists and seven rebounds.
Allatoona will play at Paulding County today.
North Cobb 50, Campbell 45: The Warriors got a little separation on the Spartans at the start of the third quarter to break open a two-point lead and win the Region 4AAAAAA game.
North Cobb eventually built an eight-point lead before Campbell closed it to five with a 23-point fourth quarter.
Micah Woodward had 15 points to lead the Warriors (5-9, 4-4), and Devin Granville had 13.
Michael Olmert led Campbell (6-7, 1-5) in scoring with 19 points.
North Cobb will play at Hiram today in a non-region game. The Spartans will play at McEachern on Tuesday.
McEachern 51, Kennesaw Mountain 49: After a big third quarter, the Indians had to hold on to win the Region 4AAAAAA home game.
Down seven at halftime, McEachern (9-2, 4-1) outscored Kennesaw Mountain (3-7, 1-5) by a 23-9 margin in the third quarter, taking a seven-point lead into the final period.
Logan McIntosh and Freddy Brown each had 12 points for McEachern, with Josh Logan adding eight and Lawrence Castor totaling 10 rebounds for the Indians, who will travel to Pebblebrook today.
Nigel Hayes’ 21 points and Andrew Jimenez’s 12 led Kennesaw Mountain, which was playing its first game since Dec. 21. The Mustangs will play again today, hosting Sprayberry.
Osborne 77, Forsyth Central 65: The Cardinals clung to a 57-54 lead at the end of the third quarter before pulling away in the fourth to claim the Region 7AAAAA win at home.
D’haire Haney scored 29 points and seven rebounds to lead Osborne (11-4, 3-2). Kyrie Hogan added 21 points and six boards, while Jacquinton Thompson chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.
Osborne will host Creekview today in another region game.
Mount Paran Christian 51, Our Lady of Mercy 35: Back in action after a week off, the Eagles won a non-region road game.
Mount Paran (3-5) saw a 10-point lead after the first quarter trimmed to five by halftime, but it gradually extended the edge again in the final two periods.
Kody Kington led with 12 points, while Emoni Williams had nine and Zach Strong finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
Mount Paran will resume its Region 6A schedule today, hosting Darlington.
Galloway 55, Walker 47: Gaines Lahue led the Wolverines with 15 points, but Walker couldn’t bounce back from a slow start, despite outscoring Galloway 13-2 in the third quarter.
Walker (5-5) combined for just 13 first-half points and trailed by 21 points at the half.
Yanik Desai added nine points for Walker, which will play at Our Lady of Mercy today.
Campbell 49, North Cobb 47: The Region 4AAAAAA game was tied at 47-all going into the final possession before Julie McKie hit the game-winner with 2 seconds left.
McKie took the inbounds pass from Simone Spencer and turned it into a layup.
McKie led the visiting Lady Spartans (11-3, 5-2) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Miranda McClure added 10 points and 12 boards, while Marisa Hall had nine points, six coming from beyond the 3-point line.
Aniya Corley and Alexis Luster had 10 points each to lead North Cobb (10-4, 4-4).
Campbell will play at McEachern on Tuesday, while North Cobb will host McEachern on Friday.
Osborne 72, Forsyth Central 44: The Lady Cardinals had a 23-8 edge in the second quarter, en route to a 46-21 halftime lead and cruised to the Region 7AAAAA victory at home.
Raven Brown posted a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Nikira Goings added 22 points, five steals and five rebounds. Zutorya Cook chipped in 17 points and seven assists.
Osborne (9-5, 4-0) will host Creekview today.
Kell 67, North Springs 14: Brittany Stocus had 17 points and recorded more than 10 rebounds in the Lady Longhorns’ one-sided win in Region 7AAAAA play.
Kayla Oden was also in double figures with 14 points.
Kell started out with a full-court press and maintained it. The Lady Longhorns built a 22-0 lead before North Springs got on the board.
Kell (5-7, 3-2) will play at Hillgrove today in a non-region game.
Mount Paran Christian 50, Our Lady of Mercy 40: The Lady Eagles went on a 10-0 run in the last 2 minutes of the first half and took a 14-point lead at the break.
Although Our Lady of Mercy made some second-half spurts, Mount Paran (8-1) stayed in front.
Bri Brown had 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Mount Paran. Taya Welch finished with 16 points. Emily Spillane led the Lady Eagles defensively with 10 rebounds.
Mount Paran will return to Region 6A play today when it hosts Darlington.
