My letter is in response to the recent article by the MDJ on how Stuart Fleming, city councilman-elect, wants to focus on the importance of Marietta’s “relevance.”
Although we do not live in Fleming’s ward we do find his “vision of relevancy” is the kind of spike that is needed for our Marietta elected leaders and caring citizens to rally around to hang their collective “thinking caps and hard hats.” The tools that will be required for the “selfless” sound visionary planning and “effective” hard work that is/will be required to form the solid civic and mortar foundations required to revitalize and redevelop the blighted sections of our historical city. Yet, keep the city of Marietta charming and beautiful while blooming boldly with new life, families and opportunities.
Hopefully Mr. Fleming will be able to keep his vision and enthusiasm bright and clear for the work he is about to begin. Please do not let the overly long and wasteful “pondering” hours, the committees and sub-committees, side bar committees, personal agenda committees or the general stalling tactics committees that are so ingrained in the operational agenda of the current Marietta City Council keep him from his noble mission.
