The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that a lawyer for Larry DiChiara on Christmas Eve filed the complaint electronically in Russell County Circuit Court.
DiChiara was named Alabama Superintendent of the Year two years ago. On Nov. 26, the seven-member board unanimously voted to buy out the 4½ years left on his contract.
The buyout is expected to cost the school system at least $750,000, but the exact figure still isn't settled. DiChiara has predicted the issue will be decided in court.
DiChiara told the Columbus newspaper in an email that he asked for the board to fulfill its contractual obligations and the two sides disagree on what those obligations entail.
