Spartans hold on for victory

Michael Olmert went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line in the final 3 minutes to help Campbell hold on for a 52-50 victory over North Springs on Thursday in the Campbell Holiday Classic.

The Spartans (4-7) held a 41-32 lead entering the fourth quarter, but fought off the North Springs comeback despite making only seven of 13 free throws in the final period. North Springs outscored Campbell 18-11 in the fourth.

Olmert added a team-high seven assists, while Laz Walker scored 10 points and Randy McClure chipped in nine. Monty Daniel had seven points and 10 rebounds for Campbell, which will play Towers tonight at 8:30 p.m.


Kell 52, Richmond Academy 41:
Onyx Henderson scored 14 points Thursday as the Lady Longhorns came from behind to win in an opening-round game of the Campbell Holiday Classic.

Kell (5-6) led 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, but found itself trailing 24-18 at halftime. The Lady Longhorns then took over in the third, outscoring Richmond Academy (8-3) 19-10 in the period before extending their margin in the fourth.

Judea Johnson added 16 points, while Jordan Dubose contributed 12 for Kell, which will play tournament host Campbell in today’s semifinal.

Douglas County 73, Walton 45: The Lady Raiders trailed 35-21 at halftime and lost in the opening round victory of the Campbell Holiday Classic.

Katie Dozier had 19 points for Walton, while Erica Mast added seven.

Walton will face Stone Mountain in a losers’ bracket game today at 11:30 a.m.
