Former Marietta resident David Stevens Sr. (who now lives in Douglasville) was surprised by his six children on Nov. 23 at a surprise 80th birthday celebration at the clubhouse at Country Walk subdivision in Powder Springs. Along with his children, his wife, Bobbie Stevens, his 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 69 other guests were in attendance.

Robin and Pamela Broyles, Lori Harrison and her fiancé Sven Aunapu, Melissa and Richard Barnes all of Cobb County hosted the party along with Dena and David Stevens of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Cindy and Craig Stevens of Paulding County, and Cathy Collins, of Gwinnett County.

Guests enjoyed a Thanksgiving buffet with turkey, ham, pork roast and all the trimmings, prepared by his children. The cake table was decorated with fishing props and a cake with a picture of “Grampa” in his boat on the lake in Harrisville, N.H., where he enjoys his summers at his cabin in the mountains. All had a fabulous time sharing memories and being together.

Once again, Carole Kell hosted her annual Christmas breakfast last Sunday — it just wouldn’t be Christmas without it. The guest list hasn’t changed: Alice and Glenn Brock, Debbie and Charlie Butler, Carolyn and Doug Chaffins, Liz Cole, Linda Flournoy, Sue Hanson, Anna and Johnny Johnson, and Teri and Earl Reece.

And the homemade menu is the same (Why change a good thing?): fried pork loin, bacon, gravy, Carole’s delicious Southern biscuits (featured in Lifestyle on March 6), cheese grits, eggs, and this year something new — banana pudding. Kell always serves sorghum syrup, honey and jellies as accompaniments.

Such fun to celebrate the holiday with such dear friends.

On Dec. 18, voice students of Catherine Moulton performed a recital at The Strand. They performed traditional Christmas songs and ended with an ensemble of “Auld Lang Syne” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Moulton, a Marietta resident, teaches lessons at the Strand Theatre.

Performers included Lindsey Clotfelter, Aleah Costoulas, Elizabeth Fakhori, Kendall Gazaway, Mary Margaret Kelley, Sydney Lee, Eliza Kate Leiter, Katie Lloyd, Virginia Morris, Kate Mutimer, Kaleigh McGrary, Laura Sanders, Hunter Sellier, Brennyn Shelton, Camdyn Shelton, Lily Watters, Grace Weiner, and Libbie Weiner.

Fashion spotlight of the week: In a leopard print dress — Laura Lea McKinney of Marietta — fashion doesn’t get more purrfect than this.
