Prep Roundup: Chandler sparks double-OT win

Kyrie’ Chandler went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the two overtime periods to help North Cobb hold Harrison for a 58-55 win Tuesday.

Harrison (7-2, 2-2 Region 4AAAAAA) jumped to a five-point lead to begin the second overtime, but North Cobb (6-2, 3-2) answered with a run that included eight straight points to build a six-point advantage.

Chandler finished the night with 25 points, making five 3-pointers and going 8-for-10 from the free-throw line.

Kristian Carter scored 12 points and Aniya Corley added 11 for the Lady Warriors.

Kaylyn Brooks led the Lady Hoyas with 15 points, Sydne Wiggins had 12 and Zoe Guilmette finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Tobi Woghiren added four points and 10 rebounds.

North Cobb (6-2, 3-3) will host Kennesaw Mountain on Friday, while Harrison (7-2, 2-2) will travel to Marietta in a game that will be played at Marietta Middle School.

Campbell 50, Marietta 40: Julie McKee scored 16 points and pulled down five rebounds as the Lady Spartans pulled away for a Region 4AAAAAA victory.

Jarriel Lark finished with 10 points and five rebounds in the win.

D’Asia Morton scored 12 points to lead the Lady Blue Devils.

Campbell (3-2, 3-2) will travel to Walton on Saturday. Marietta (4-3, 1-3) will host Harrison on Friday.

Wheeler 51, Etowah 39: Tierra Steede scored 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Lady Wildcats pulled away for a Region 5AAAAA victory.

With the game tied at 34 after three quarters, Wheeler turned five steals into easy baskets and made free throws as it outscored Etowah 17-5 in the final 8 minutes.

Shanee Bailey had 10 points and Asha Abdur-Rahim added eight in the win.

The Lady Wildcats (5-2, 3-1) will travel to Marietta on Dec. 21.

Pope 62, Kell 59: Bria Johnson hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:20 to play in the fourth quarter and the Lady Greyhounds held on for a Region 7AAAAA victory.

Pope trailed 47-43 heading to the final quarter, but turned six Kell turnovers into a 19-11 run.

Kierra Henry scored 24 points with 10 rebounds and Johnson finished with 19 points. Esther Paulk had 11 points and Dyanna Freeman added four points and nine rebounds.

Onyx Henderson led the Lady Longhorns with 23 points.

Pope (8-2, 3-0) will host Osborne on Friday, while Kell (2-6, 2-2) will host Lassiter.

Osborne 75, Riverwood 42: Zutorya Cook connected on four 3-pointers and scored 17 points in the first quarter to start the Lady Cardinals on a Region 7AAAAA rout.

Osborne finished the first quarter with a 33-11 lead.

Cook finished the game with 20 points and five assists. Nikira Goings had 15 points with four steals, Alexis Singletary had 14 points and 10 boards and Jaya Washington added seven points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals (4-4, 3-0) will travel to Pope on Friday.

Walton 47, Woodstock 42: The Lady Raiders controlled the middle portion of the game and got their first win of the season.

Walton (1-5, 1-2 Region 5AAAAAA) held a 29-16 edge in the second and third quarters, only to be outscored 26-18 in the first and fourth.

Katie Dozier had 17 points, and Erika Mast 10 for the Lady Raiders, who will travel to Roswell on Friday.

Mount Paran Christian 51, Walker 22: Bri Brown scored a game-high 19 points as the Lady Eagles won the Region 6A game.

Que Morrison had a double-double of 11 points and 10 steals, while Brown just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

Mount Paran (4-1, 2-0) will host Landmark Christian on Friday.

Collier Middleton had 10 points for Walker (4-3, 0-1), which will travel Friday to Fellowship Christian.

Lassiter 32, Milton 17: The Lady Trojans held the Lady Eagles to just one free throw the entire first quarter and used that to take a 24-5 halftime lead.

The scoring was widespread with no one reaching double digits. Maeve Vitale had nine points, Emilee Olsen added eight and Mackenzie Henkle had seven.

Lassiter (5-4, 2-2) forced 13 turnovers in the first half, most of which turned into points.

The Lady Trojans will play at Kell in a non-region game Friday.

Dominion Christian 42, Furtah Prep 11: Bailey Fawcett scored a game-high 14 points as the Lady Knights cruised to the GISA victory.

Fawcett also bolstered the defense with nine steals, and she also had six offensive rebounds.

Ava Johnson added 12 points, nine steals and six offensive rebounds, and Brianna Zambo scored 10 for Dominion, which will travel to Griffin Christian on Friday.

Killian Hill 36, Shiloh Hills Christian 33 (OT): Kayla Allen hit a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, but the Lady Challengers ultimately fell.

Samantha Henderson had 11 points and 12 steals. Allen finished with 10 points and six boards.

Shiloh Hills (9-4) will host Cumberland Christian on Friday.


North Cobb Christian 75, King’s Ridge Christian 38:
One basket was all that separated the Eagles from having six double-digit scorers in the Region 6A road game.

North Cobb Christian (6-1, 2-0) dominated with 73 points through three quarters before letting up on the gas in the final period.

Hunter Ware led with 18 points and five assists. Keyshawn Butts added 13 points, while Kendall Crute had 12 points and eight assists. Stephon Jelks and Trey Kalina each had 10 points and 10 rebounds, with Kalina also contributing five blocks.

Jonathan Twine just missed the double-digit club with eight points.

North Cobb Christian will face a Class A showdown with Whitefield Academy, hosting the Wolfpack on Friday.

Walton 70, Woodstock 58: Nick Wells’ double-double led the Raiders to a Region 5AAAAAA win and helped them maintain their undefeated record.

Wells had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Walton (6-0, 3-0) and was backed by three other double-digit scorers — Maurice Gibson (12), Jay Bowyer (11) and Elijah Weems (10).

The Raiders will continue region play Friday at Roswell.

Osborne 65, Riverwood 64: D’Haire Haney scored 27 points and had seven steals to lead the Cardinals to a Region 7AAAAA victory.

JaQuinton Thompson finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Tariq Morris added 12 points in the win.

Osborne (4-3, 1-2) will travel to Pope on Friday.

Mount Paran Christian 63, Walker 43: Dorian Walker scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Eagles to a Region 6A win.

Mount Paran Christian jumped to a 28-8 lead at the half.

Zach Strong finished with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Emoni Williams added eight points and seven assists.

Robert Baker led Walker with 14 points.

Mount Paran (1-2, 1-1) will host King’s Ridge on Friday, while Whitefield (5-2, 0-1) will travel to Fellowship Christian.

Sprayberry 72, River Ridge 61: Armel Potter led the Yellow Jackets with 28 points in a non-region win.

Maurion Skrine had 26 points, and David Tshamala had 12.

The Yellow Jackets hit 13 3-pointers, with Skrine accounting for eight of them. Potter added three more from beyond the arc and Tshamala had two.

Potter also finished with seven rebounds and four assists for Sprayberry (5-3). Mo Merritt had five rebounds and three blocks.

Sprayberry will play at Riverwood on Friday in a Region 7AAAAA game.

Wheeler 75, Etowah 53: Avery Patterson led the Wildcats with 17 points, while Elijah Staley and Daniel Giddens each scored 13 in a Region 5AAAAAA win.

Wheeler (5-0, 4-0) jumped to a 21-11 first-quarter lead and sustained it.

Pope 51, Kell 50: Kendrick Summerour hit a jumper with 18 seconds left to give the Longhorns a one-point lead.

Pope (7-1, 3-0 Region 7AAAAA) then missed a 3-pointer in the corner, but it got the offensive rebound and was fouled.

Chase Hutchins made both free throws to seal the Region 7AAAAAA game.

Hutchins ended up with 15 points for the Greyhounds. Garrick DeBowles had 14 and Cole Childers added 12.

For Kell, Jarvis Jones had 13 points off the bench, while Grant Bryant added 12. Qua Alexander was also in double figures with 10.

Marietta 47, Campbell 30: The Blue Devils trailed 20-15 at the half before outscoring the Spartans 32-10 in the second half to clinch the Region 4AAAAAA win.

The game changed when Marietta held Campbell scoreless from the field in the third quarter. The Spartans’ three points in that frame all came on the free-throw line.

Raynere Thornton had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Marietta. He also went 7-of-10 from the line. Rayveon Thornton added 12 points.

Lazarus Walker led Campbell with 10 points.

Marietta (7-1, 4-1) will play Harrison on Friday at Marietta Middle School.

Allatoona 56, New Manchester 49: Daniel Fowler led the Buccaneers with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Region 5AAAAA win.

A total of eight players scored for Allatoona.

Shamaar Griffin had eight points, all of them coming in the first half to help Allatoona outscore New Manchester 19-8 in the second quarter.

Rodney Brown finished with seven points. Trey Tshimanga had six points, all coming in the fourth quarter, and a 3 broke open a one-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Allatoona (4-0, 3-0) will host East Paulding on Tuesday.

North Cobb 50, Harrison 47: The Hoyas nearly rallied from a nine-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but the Warriors preserved their lead.

Harrison got within one point, with Justice Morgan hitting 15 of his 21 fourth-quarter points to spurt the rally.

Darius Johnson made four free throws to increase North Cobb’s lead before Morgan missed the game-tying shot at the buzzer.

Micah Woodward had 14 points to lead North Cobb. Daniel Beausejour had nine points and 13 rebounds, while Darius Jones had nine points and added eight boards. Noah Cotton had six points and six assists.

North Cobb (3-5, 2-3) will host Kennesaw Mountain on Friday.

Milton 73, Lassiter 48: The Trojans kept pace in the first quarter with a 12-all tie, but the Eagles’ 31-point second quarter was too much to overcome.

Derrick Lloyd and Alex Riley each had 10 points for Lassiter (2-4, 0-4 Region 5AAAAAA), which will step out of region play Friday for a game at Kell.

Shiloh Hills Christian 61, Killian Hill 36: Jon Allen scored a game-high 32 points as the Challengers rolled.

Allen scored 18 of Shiloh Hills’ 20 points in the first quarter. He finished the night connecting on all six 3-point attempts and added nine rebounds.

Austin Greenway added nine points and seven assists.

Shiloh Hills (11-4) will host Cumberland Christian on Friday.

Furtah Prep 74, Dominion Christian 51: Jordan Dorsey had 14 points to lead the Knights but couldn’t overcome 14 turnovers.

Tate Cooney had 12 points and six rebounds for Dominion (3-2), which will play at Griffin Christian on Friday.

If you didn't see the girls game last night, you missed a good one. It was nice to see a close, well-fought game. Both teams are going to be tough this year.
