Mary Frances Craig Holcomb, widow of the late Frank D. Holcomb, died in Vienna, Virginia on November 28, 2013. Born in Gwinnett County, Georgia on July 6, 1920, Mary was the daughter of the late Beatrice Hambrick Craig and Henry Rochelle Craig, Sr. She graduated from Thornwell High School in Clinton, SC and received her nursing degree in 1943 from Crawford W. Long School of Nursing in Atlanta. Marrying Frank on May 18, 1944, they moved to Marietta in 1948 where she remained until her move to Virginia in August 2012. During her years in Marietta, Mary was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, participating in the Women of the Church and Bible Study. She was also active in the Cobb County Legal Auxiliary, a member of the Marietta Flower Garden Club, and served over 20 years as a volunteer at Kennestone Hospital, later Wellstar. Survivors include Mary’s daughter, Patricia H. Moore (Daniel) of McLean, Virginia; her son, F. Darrell Holcomb (Judy) of Fernandina Beach, Florida. Mary is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Laura H. Wilkerson (Wade) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lee H. Henderson of Greenville, South Carolina, Stephen E. Losey (Ellen) of Springfield, Virginia, Andrew C. Losey (Karen) of Reston, Virginia, Craig C. Holcomb, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, Bennett F. Moore and Gibbs B. Moore, both of Alexandria, Virginia. She was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jackson, and Luke Wilkerson, Margaret P. Losey. Mary leaves daughter-in-law, Winifred S. Holcomb of Nashville, Tennessee; son-in-law, Early H. Losey of Vienna, Virginia; sister-in-law, Patsy Craig of Madison; cousins, Rebecca Minor and Christine Minor Williams of Snellville; nieces, Barbara Sudderth Dabbs of Decatur and Fran H. Lowery of Canton; nephews, William Sudderth of Macon and Mark Craig of Madison. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela C. Losey and son, Craig C. Holcomb. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Mildred Craig, Henry Rochelle Craig, Jr., Hallie Craig Sudderth, Elvira Craig Rhodes, and James Henry Craig. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta with Rev. Denise Beltzner officiating. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta will be handling the arrangements.
