On Nov. 16, Elizabeth James Wick Ward of Nashville, Tenn., and William Hampton Harrison of Marietta celebrated their marriage at a ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. There was such an aura of love between the bride and groom that anyone who knew this couple would agree it was meant to be. The ceremony started at half after five in the afternoon and was officiated by the Rev. Keith Gunter — he is a former minister at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta.

The groomsmen in black ties congratulated the groom as they entered the church one-by-one. The bridesmaids — a beautiful parade of fabulousness — each wore a dress of her choosing in a peach hue. Adorable toe-headed children — nieces and nephews of the bride — gave an encore performance as flower girls and ring bearers and might have stolen the show but for the entrance of the bride. Honoring the Scottish heritage of the bride’s family, a bagpiper bedecked in red plaid kilt processed the aisle before the entrance of the bride.

A breathtaking Elizabeth on the arm of her father exuded happiness that only a bride in love could do. She wore a white gown with lace bodice and was crowned with an heirloom veil purchased in Europe in the late 1940s by her paternal great grandmother, Iren Watkins Moulton, at the urging of Liz’s grandmother, Grace Moulton Ward. Over the past 65 years, at least eight known descendants have worn the exquisite veil.

The nuptials were celebrated at an elegant reception at Belle Meade Country Club, an old established white columned club in the heart of Nashville. Music filled the rooms clad with exquisite Zuber wallpaper. Servers in white coats met guests with trays of tasty bite-size hors oeuvres. Guests enjoyed a delicious buffet at round tables adorned with long white tablecloths set with gold Chiavari chairs.

The setting was beautiful and the party impeccably planned but it was a mere backdrop for what was a genuine celebration of the new union. The heartfelt feeling of love, joy and happiness by all who attended undoubtedly brought memories that will never be forgotten by the newly married Mr. and Mrs. William Harrison.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Helen and Stephen Ward. Will is the son of Virginia and Lane Harrison. The couple met while attending Clemson University. They reside in Denver, Colo.
