Day is currently the assistant fire chief for the Missouri City, Texas, about 18 miles southwest of Houston.

Smyrna City Council will vote on giving Day the position on Monday, Dec. 16.

Out of 50 candidates, 14 were given consideration and five were selected for a thorough assessment that included interviews.
