MARIETTA — A dispute between two Marietta men turned fatal late Monday night after an altercation left one man lying dead in the road.

According to the warrant, at 10:12 p.m. Charles Mahaffey, 33, allegedly stabbed Christopher Reynolds, 26, in the chest while fighting outside of a residence on Brackett Drive, off Windy Hill Road near Marietta.

Cobb Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said there were many witnesses to the stabbing who were out in the neighborhood, so the police were alerted “fairly quickly.”

Officers were dispatched to a report of a person down in the roadway, Pierce said. When they arrived, Cobb police found the body of Reynolds dead at the scene.

Mahaffey allegedly fled on a bicycle, but was later arrested by the Cobb County Police Department on North Marietta Parkway.

Mahaffey was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault and murder, according to the warrant. He is being held without bond in the Cobb County jail.

Pierce said Reynolds and Mahaffey knew each other through the family who lived at the home off Brackett Drive.
