Marietta Comic Book Con

This year, the Marietta Comic Book Con will have twice the floor space, creative talent and vendors. There will be a costume contest with a $100 cash first prize and a quick draw artist competition with prizes. There will be several local comic book creators as well as a host of comic book, action figure and manga vendors from throughout the Southeast. Some convention guests include Tracy Yardly, artist for Sonic the Hedgehog; comic writers Joe Pruett and Bobbi Nash; comic artists Matthew Smith, Rodney Rodis, Craig Gilmore, Chris Hamer Urban and Randy Bishop; Marcus Williams and Kyle Puttkammer, the creative team of Hero Cats; author/game designer Jamie Chambers; author Timothy Price; artist Alicia Jaskula Simonton; and the Scairy Tales Noir Comic Publishing Company.

WHEN: Nov. 3, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Marriott Convention Center, 200 Interstate North Parkway Southeast in the Cumberland area

COST: $5 at the door. Kids under five are free with an adult.

Chili Cook-Off

WHAT: The Marietta ELKS Lodge will kick off their annual fundraiser to help needy families with children at Christmas with a Chili Cook-Off. There will be a 50/50 raffle with the winner receiving half and the balance will go towards needy families with children for Christmas.

WHEN: Nov. 2, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Marietta ELKS Lodge, McAdoo Historic House, 1706 Powder Springs Road, Marietta

COST: $3 per bowl donation is requested

Heroes and Legends Gala

WHAT: The Kennesaw Museum Foundation and the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History will honor their members during the upcoming Heroes and Legends Gala. This year’s Gala has a Gone with the Wind theme and attendees are encouraged to dress in period garb. Black tie is optional. The event includes a dinner provided by Ruth’s Chris Steak House and a silent auction featuring rare railroad memorabilia. All proceeds from the Gala benefit educational outreach programs at the Museum. All donations are tax deductible.

Atlanta Undy 5000 5K Run/Walk

WHAT: Turn your underwear into outerwear with family-friendly, underwear-themed outfits for the Atlanta Undy 5000 5K Run/Walk on the Marietta Square. Annually, the Undy5000 event is a cheeky way to raise awareness and funds for the colorectal cancer. Instead of a race day t-shirt, participants will receive a stylish pair of boxer shorts and have the opportunity to take a stroll through a larger-than-life inflatable colon. Race funds will go to the Colorectal Cancer Transportation Assistance Program at Northside Hospital.

Collectors United Doll Show & Sale

WHAT: The Collectors United Doll Show and Sale, sponsored by Collectors United, will feature over 200 tables of collector dolls with dealers from across the U.S. There will be Barbies, Madame Alexanders, antique dolls and artist dolls.

WHEN: Nov. 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
