Harmon B. Hardegree Jr., Chief Warrant Officer 3, Retired, of Acworth, Georgia died Monday, October 14, 2013. He was 91. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sara Fishback Hardegree; one sister, Betty Scott of Milledgeville; sons Gary M. Hardegree (Kate) of Amherst, Massachusetts; Harmon B. Hardegree, III (Judy) Powder Springs; Steven Scot Hardegree of Acworth and three grandchildren, Laura Dorfman Hardegree, Caitlin Marie Hardegree and Harmon Berry Hardegree IV and many nieces and nephews. Harmon was born in Vienna, Georgia on February 7, 1922 to Harmon Berry Hardegree and Tommie Kidd Hardegree. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and four sisters. He retired from the US Army as an Intelligence Officer after more than 20 years of service. He was one of the founding members of the Green Berets and a member of the Military Officer’s Association. Following his retirement from military service, Mr. Hardegree was employed as the Circulation Traffic Manager with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, retiring in 1983 after 18 years of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
