GAINESVILLE — Hall County sheriff’s officials say two inmates who escaped from a work release program in mid-September have been recaptured in the past two weeks.

Officials say 38-year-old Joseph McAllister was rearrested early Saturday morning after authorities found him running through a wooded area carrying a large knife. He was arrested after a five-hour search.

Lt. Stephen Wilbanks told the Gainesville Times 35-year-old Randall Ladd was recaptured Sept. 25 after a flat tire stopped his getaway vehicle.

Officials say both men were being held on probation violation charges and had a history of trying to escape.

Authorities say Ladd left a work release center without permission in 1997 and McAllister escaped from house arrest in 2008.
