Seven of the Lady Buccaneers’ 13 hits went for extra bases. Elisabeth Federici was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the first inning, and six other players had doubles.
Dani Lewis was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Nicole Williams batted 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Madisyn Escue was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI,and Madison Halyard had a double and an RBI. Casey Lewis had two hits.
Allatoona (25-7) scored three runs in the first inning, four in the fourth and twice in the fifth.
Makenzie Colwart (19-3) gave up one earned run on one hit and struck out four.
The Lady Buccaneers will host the No. 4 seed from Region 7AAAAA in the first round of the state playoffs next week.
Lassiter 6, Woodstock 5 (8 inn.): Murphy Davis provided the game-winning hit in the eighth inning to advance the Lady Trojans into the championship game of the Region 5AAAAAA tournament.
Woodstock tied the game at 5-all with a run in the top of the seventh, but it failed to score in the eighth. Entering the bottom half of the frame, Amanda Wilson went to second using the international tiebreaker rule. She moved to third on Kelly Sinclair’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Davis’ walk-off single.
Lassiter trailed 4-1 in the sixth, but took the lead in the bottom of the inning behind Carli Kayler’s two-out, two-run double. The Lady Trojans (24-5) sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs off four hits and two walks to take a 5-4 advantage.
Sinclair batted 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Emily Syvarth was 2-for-4. Kayler batted 2-for-2 with a home run, double and three RBIs.
Brianna Michaud (5-3) got the win in relief after giving up two earned runs on three hits while striking out four in four innings. Piper Wagner allowed three earned runs on five hits in four innings as starter.
Cherokee will have to beat Lassiter twice today to win the region title.
Harrison 4, North Cobb 1: The Lady Hoyas earned the No. 3 seed from Region 4AAAAAA with the home victory.
North Cobb took a 1-0 first inning lead behind Jordan Lewis’ RBI.
Harrison (22-7) tied the contest in the second before adding two more in the fourth and another run in the sixth.
Emily Stallings was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Mikenzie Vaughn batted 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Kellie Carroll was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Emily Kachel (9-1), who gave up one unearned run on three hits while striking out 14, also had an RBI on a suicide squeeze.
North Cobb 6, McEachern 0: The Lady Warriors advanced to the state playoffs as a No. 4 seed by downing the Lady Indians in the Region 4AAAAAA tournament.
Olivia Mould pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout while striking out 10. She also helped herself at the plate with an RBI double.
Taylor Krause had two doubles, Kasey Page was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases, Kayla Trumbull and Iman Muhummed each had two hits and Tori Douglas added one.
North Cobb (22-9) will open state tournament play next week.
Pope 1, Cambridge 0: The Lady Greyhounds didn’t get a hit, but they didn’t need one.
Lindsey Monkiewicz scored the game’s only run after reaching base in the sixth inning on an error, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then came around on the third baseman’s throwing error.
Pope (23-8) advances to today’s third-place game. This will be the fourth straight season the Lady Greyhounds have advanced to the state playoffs.
Kelly Barnhill pitched a complete-game one-hitter with 17 strikeouts.
Walker wins Area 4A title: The Lady Wolverines downed rival Mount Paran Christian in three sets to win the Area 4A championship and secure a No. 1 seed in the Class A state playoffs.
Walker (32-9), which beat Mount Paran 25-21, 25-16, 25-20, will host the playoff opener next week.
Brooke Horner led the way with 17 kills, 12 digs and three blocks. Sasha Fazylov had 14 kills with 11 digs, while Jordan Tasman finished with 10 digs and five aces. Holland Martin had 25 assists and Anna Chocallo added 22 digs.
North Cobb advances to state: Taylor Parrish reached the 2,000-assist milestone for her career as the Lady Warriors beat Douglas County (25-5, 28-26) and Hillgrove (25-13, 25-19) in the Area 3AAAAAA tournament.
North Cobb (37-14) earned a spot in the Class AAAAAA state tournament and advanced to Saturday’s semifinals against Harrison at Hillgrove.
Parrish finished the night with 37 assists and seven aces. Tate Pember and Christina Matacotta each had 16 digs, Savanna Gonzales finished with 10 kills and Madi Dukes had nine kills.
Kaitlyn Woodruff finished with seven kills and two blocks, and Abby Miller added eight kills, 10 digs and five aces.
Pope splits in area tourney: After beating Northview 25-19, 25-10, the Lady Greyhounds had no so such luck in their second match of the Area 7AAAAA tournament, losing 25-21, 25-10 to Sequoyah.
Kristen Phillips had 14 kills on the night, with Sydney Darden adding 13 and Celine Das seven. Molly Armitage’s four aces and Phillips’ three led the service game, while Das and Chelsea Calhoun combined for 31 assists.
Defensively, Armitage had nine digs, with Calhoun and Darden each adding seven. Christina Bixby blocked four shots.
Pope (26-23) will look to rebound Saturday and clinch a state playoff berth when the tournament resumes at Sequoyah.
Lassiter earns split: The Lady Trojans beat Woodstock (25-13, 25-13) in the first round of the Area 4AAAAAA tournament, but then lost to Walton (25-16, 25-7) in the second-round of the double-elimination bracket.
Libby Bochniak had 17 kills and 10 digs, while Caylee Yanes had 16 digs and four aces for Lassiter (28-20). Annie Chandler totaled 17 digs and three aces. Sam Link added 25 assists.
Lassiter will play either Milton or Cherokee Saturday at Milton.
Holy Spirit 3, Dominion Christian 1: After battling for a 28-26 win in the first set, the Lady Knights couldn’t get any further and lost the next three 25-19, 25-16, 25-21.
Sabrina Johnston had six kills and 15 digs for Dominion.
