Harrison qualified for the state playoffs after beating North Cobb 3-1 on Thursday in the winners’ bracket final of the double-elimination Region 4AAAAAA tournament.

Sierra Maddox was 2-for-2 with a double and scored a run for Harrison (21-7), which led 3-0 entering the seventh.

Bridgette Rainey gave up four of her eight walks in the seventh inning, allowing Sarah Merced to post North Cobb’s lone run. Rainey (10-5) had no-hit the Lady Warriors over 6 2/3 innings. She also struck out nine and hit a batter.

Emily Kachel earned the save after striking out the lone batter she faced with the bases loaded.

Harrison will play either North Cobb or McEachern today for the region’s No. 3 seed.

Pope 13, Forsyth Central 0 (4 inn.): Ellyn Strother batted 2-for-3 with a three-run double in the third inning to help the Lady Greyhounds advance into today’s winner’s bracket final of the double-elimination Region 7AAAAA tournament.

Lauren Palace was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base for Pope (22-8). Ellie Viland, Quentin Staton, Tamaya Turner and Lindsey Monkiewicz each had an RBI.

Sydney Segers was 2-for-2 with a double.

Pope, which had nine hits, scored five runs in the second and eight in third to take control.

Kelly Barnhill (8-0) gave up one hit and struck out seven in four innings.

Pope will face Cambridge today with a berth to the state playoffs on the line.

Sprayberry 11, North Springs 0 (5 inn.): Charlie Smith hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to end the Region 7AAAAA tournament game and send the Lady Yellow Jackets into the next round.

Sprayberry (13-16) will face Northview today.

Smith finished the night 2-for-3 with a double, her home run and six RBIs. She also pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits and striking out five.

Kayleigh Breh was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Katie Tokos had a hit and an RBI.

McEachern 8, South Cobb 2: The seventh-seeded Lady Indians used a five-run fourth inning to break the game open and beat the Lady Eagles in the Region 4AAAAAA tournament.

Dymond McMillan had the big hit — a three-run double in the fourth — and went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Denise Bedford and Ryan Hawkins each had doubles, and Abigail Cherry pitched a complete-game seven-hitter.

The Lady Indians (12-14) will play North Cobb today with a state playoff berth on the line.

Whitefield Academy 2, Mount Paran Christian 1 (8 inn.): Hannah Brown not only struck out 12 and pitched out of repeated jams, but she also scored the winning run in the Region 6A tournament game.

Brown scored the walk-off run in the eighth, coming home on Megan Rose Byers’ bunt.

Mount Paran had scored its lone run off a Whitefield error in the fourth, matching the run the Lady Wolfpack had scored two innings earlier.

Whitefield will continue tournament play today against Mount Pisgah Christian. The Lady Wolfpack, currently ranked 19th in the Class A private-school power ratings, need a strong showing to ensure one of the 16 state playoff berths.

Mount Paran had been knocked out of the winners’ bracket earlier in the day, losing 9-0 to Trion.

Courtney McKenzie had two of Mount Paran’s three hits against Trion, with one a double. Anna Buehler had the other hit.

Emily Harrell batted 2-for-4 for Mount Paran (9-14-1) against Whitefield.
