The rest will find out this week whether or not they will make the postseason.
Allatoona, the defending Region 5AAAAA champion, began its region tournament last week.
The top-seeded Lady Buccaneers clinched a postseason berth after beating South Paulding 7-1 in a winners’ bracket semifinal game Thursday. Allatoona, which can finish no worse than No. 3 in the region, will host the remaining games of the double-elimination tournament, which continues today.
The Lady Buccaneers will play Paulding County today in the winners’ bracket final. Losers’ bracket games will also take place today and Tuesday, while the championship game is scheduled for Thursday.
Hillgrove and Kennesaw Mountain are the other two local teams with guaranteed state playoff spots.
The top-seeded Lady Hawks will host the second-seeded Lady Mustangs in a best-of-three Region 4AAAAAA championship series beginning with two games Wednesday. A third game, if necessary, would be Thursday.
The remaining two playoff seeds from 4AAAAAA will come from a double-elimination tournament that begins today. Harrison, the No. 3 seed, will host tournament games every day except Tuesday. The finals will be Thursday and, if necessary, Friday.
North Cobb, the No. 4 seed, will host some first-round and losers’ bracket games today and Tuesday.
“I couldn’t be happier with this team,” North Cobb coach JoBeth Weaver said. “We’re playing good softball on offense and defense. (No. 1 pitcher) Olivia Mould is doing great, and (reliever) Katlyn Tinsley is pitching well for us, too.
“On any given night, we feel like we can explode offensively and compete with anybody. It’s been like that for us all year. I’m very excited about our chances of making the playoffs, and I’m looking forward to the tournament.”
Pope is the defending champion in Region 7AAAAA, but the Lady Greyhounds won’t get a chance to defend that crown. Instead, Creekview and Sequoyah will face off in a best-of-three championship series, while the remaining region teams will head to the Al Bishop Softball Complex for a double-elimination tournament to determine the region’s third and fourth playoff seeds.
The tournament begins today, with the final scheduled for Thursday. An elimination game would take place Friday.
Top-seeded Lassiter will host the majority of games in the double-elimination Region 5AAAAAA tournament, which begins today. Woodstock, the No. 2 seed, will host some first-round and losers’ bracket games today and Tuesday.
The championship final is slated for Thursday at Lassiter.
Whitefield Academy is the highest-seeded local team in the Region 6A tournament, which begins today in Cartersville. The Lady Wolfpack are the No. 2 seed from the east side of the bracket. Mount Pisgah Christian is the top seed from the east, and Gordon Lee the top seed in the west.
The championship game is slated for Thursday.
