KSU plans Founders Week Events

KENNESAW — Kennesaw State University on Wednesday will celebrate 50 years since the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents chartered a new junior college in Cobb County.

Below is a list of activities the Kennesaw-area school has scheduled throughout the anniversary week to celebrate the honor. Please note tickets and invitations are required for some events.

Monday, Oct. 7

7:30 a.m. — KSU President Dan Papp and UGA Coach Vince Dooley will speak at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce’s First Monday Breakfast at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta. Tickets required.

4 p.m. — KSU history Professor Emeritus Tom Scott will have a book launch and unveiling ceremony of Kennesaw State Archives’ Historical Exhibit, “The Kennesaw State Spirit: KSU at 50,” at the KSU Athenaeum Gallery at Sturgis Library on campus.

Tuesday, Oct. 8

11 a.m. — Author of “My Orange Duffel Bag” and inspirational speaker Sam Bracken and football coach Bill Curry will speak at the KSU Convocation Center

5 p.m. — Town Center Mall in Kennesaw off Barrett Parkway will have “Hoot-a-Palooza”

6 p.m. — KSU Foundation Board of Trustees will have its invitation-only annual dinner.

Wednesday, Oct. 9 — “Founders Day”

9:30 a.m. — Groundbreaking ceremony of the Skip Spann Connector near KSU campus

1 p.m. — Groundbreaking ceremony of the expansion of Sturgis Library at KSU

8 p.m. — Founders Day Concert featuring the KSU Symphony Orchestra at Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center. Tickets required.

Thursday, Oct. 10

9:30 a.m. — Keynote address speaker and Smithsonian Institution Secretary Dr. Wayne Clough, along with University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby will have a panel discussion, “Higher Education: The Next 50 Years,” at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center at KSU.

Friday, Oct. 11

9:30 a.m. — KSU is having an invitation-only retirees event, “Brunch on the Bricks,” at the KSU Gazebo and Leadership Room

1 p.m. — KSU President Dan Papp will have a panel discussion, “The Evolution of Inclusion Kennesaw State University,” in the Prillaman Hall Auditorium at KSU

3 p.m. — “Celebration on the Green” will be had for faculty, staff, students and friends on the KSU Campus Green

6 p.m. — KSU Foundation will have an invite-only tribute to Chet and Hazel Austin
