The board will consider approving a $135,575 contract set to run through June 2014 with Sandy Springs-based Greenway Strategy Management on Oct. 15.
“We needed to bring in somebody that could help us with this project that had the experience and could hit the ground running and get a lot accomplished,” Superintendent Emily Lembeck said.
Lembeck asked Martha Greenway to give a proposal to the board Friday.
Lembeck said Greenway did a great job helping her staff develop Marietta’s 10-year charter renewal application, its strategic plan and its accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools over the last year.
Greenway was also involved with developing the Fulton County Schools’ compensation redesign. Marietta and Fulton are the only districts in the state considering a new salary plan.
Greenway would be charged with defining about 40 different job descriptions and evaluations for new teacher roles, district leaders such as directors or supervisors working in the central office and school-based employees who do not teach but contribute to instruction.
Lembeck is working to develop the number of employees who fall under these roles.
Social workers, counselors, instructional coaches, media specialists and directors of transportation or human resources are examples of positions that Greenway’s firm will be responsible for redefining.
She will interview employees, organize focus groups and get opinions from employees when developing these new positions and job descriptions.
Board members on Friday indicated that the contract with Greenway’s organization is needed.
“I think that this needs to be done because the whole thing won’t work if the district leadership isn’t done right and it has to be done similarly to the teachers, so I think we have to do this and you can’t do this,” board member Jill Mutimer said to Lembeck. “You can’t do this, even if you had time.”
“This needs to be done, and done right,” Lembeck said. “I think it’s exciting work. This is revolutionary, how we are going to do things compared to how they were done before, but it is for the right reasons.”
