Winnette Rooks, age 89, of Smyrna, Ga went to be with the Lord on October 2. She was a native of Atlanta and worked as a dental hygienist for 45 years. She worked over 25 years at Financial Development Corp. and was still working there until her recent illness. She loved to travel both in the United States and abroad. Winnette was a special “one-of-a-kind” individual (as those who knew and loved her will attest) and her home is the one where family gathered for holidays and special occasions. A Christian of great strength and faith, she felt very blessed and was thankful to have lived 89 healthy years. She is survived by sister Juanita Morgan of Marietta; daughters, Rhonda Speck (Bill) of Canton and Donna Haynes (David) of Smyrna; grandchildren, Meredith Castro (Roland), Ryan Speck (Cheria), Michael Haynes, and Richard Haynes; great-grandchildren, Ty Castro and Will Castro; niece Pam Scott of Marietta; nephew Howard Conley of Smyrna; several great nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 am Friday, October 4 in the chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. Interment will be in Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Thursday, October 3 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wellstar Community Hospice at Home Hospice Tranquility Cobb.
