MARIETTA — Two Marietta teens remain in custody after allegedly robbing and stabbing to death another teen Saturday night at a bus station on South Marietta Parkway.

This marks the fourth homicide reported inside the city limits of Marietta this year.

Officer David Baldwin of Marietta Police said 14-year-old Josue Chapa and 16-year-old Brandon Betancourt were arrested Sunday night and charged as adults in connection with the deadly stabbing of 18-year-old Marquise Carruthers of Marietta.

The incident reportedly happened at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at the Cobb Community Transport station at 800 S. Marietta Parkway, after Carruthers allegedly attacked and robbed Chapa in the vicinity, according to the arrest warrant.

Police said in an arrest warrant that Chapa and Betancourt robbed Carruthers, then went and retrieved a kitchen knife from a nearby home off Lake Drive and went back to the bus station. The teens chased Carruthers down and stabbed him once in the chest after catching up with him, the warrant says.

Baldwin said someone passing by the bus station saw Carruthers lying on the side of the road, stopped to help him and called police after they realized that he was unconscious.

Carruthers was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where he later died.

“Marietta Police detectives immediately launched an investigation, which revealed that an altercation had occurred between the victim and two juveniles at another location and ended violently near the CCT parking lot,” according to a prepared statement released by Baldwin.

The two teenagers remain in custody without bonds at a juvenile detention center in Cobb County.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Daniel Ohmann at (770) 794-5372 or the Marietta Police Anonymous Tip Line at (770) 794-6990.

The law enforcement community needs to clean up all the crime by more aggressive methods, not just answering radio calls! I saw the ignorant young man acting like robbing someone is no big deal! Why isn't he in jail? Sorry to say when you bring certain elements to your community all they do is destroy. African Americans and other minorities need to stop using their race as a badge of ignorance. I recommend the stop and frisk policy, this would reduce crime and also send the message the community has had enough! By the way I'm African American before all the racists responses are sent!

Ignorance has no race. That badge is worn by all who are the so-called Elements that live in all communities. I would like to see the stop and frisk policy as long as it's from Bankhead to Buckhead.

Another product of illegals. These children can not make it in school, so they resort to dealing drugs and violence. The third party to this laughing on TV because "this wasn't suppose to happen." He did not seem phased that he was trying to rob someone to buy weed. He said it like,"No big deal." The police need to clean up the area!

Is this comment a joke? Just because Josue and Brandon are Hispanic does NOT mean they are illegal. And even if they were, being an illegal immigrant doesn't automatically make you a violent drug dealer. That's racism. Just turn off your computer because it's time to stop posting hate speech.
