A man on a reportedly stolen motorcycle fled police after they attempted to pull him over near the corner of Sandy Plains and Canton roads in Marietta at about 5 p.m. on Monday.

After a Cobb police officer ran the tag number on the motorcycle a man was driving and it turned up stolen, the man sped away, said Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Piece.

“You know motorcycles, we’re not very good at catching because they’re so fast,” Pierce said.

The driver abandoned the bike at the Home Town Inn, at 1051 Canton Road off Cobb Parkway, scrambling over a fence and fleeing on foot.

“There was other drug paraphernalia that was located in that immediate area,” Pierce said.

Although police lost the man, they did identify him, a detail they were not giving out as of Monday night.

Pierce said the man may be armed with a gun.
