A Marietta man died in a single-vehicle car crash around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning in east Cobb, which the Cobb County Police Department said involved speeding and alcohol.

Roosevelt Schimmel, 62, was driving his black 2013 BMW M6 convertible westbound on Lower Roswell Road near Surrey Trail when he lost control on a right curve, according to Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police.

“The vehicle continued down the sloped shoulder of the roadway and started to flip, where it then came to a final rest against a utility pole,” Bowman stated.

Schimmel was dead at the scene. A front seat passenger, Michele Pierce, 34, of Smyrna, was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Cobb County Fire Department.

Pierce was transported by ground ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
