Prep Roundup: Harrison continues its momentum

Coming off a county title, Harrison continued its momentum by dominating an Area 3AAAAAA quad-match Tuesday.

The Lady Hoyas allowed fewer than 10 points in five of the six sets they played, beating Pebblebrook (25-5, 25-7), South Cobb (25-7, 25-4) and host McEachern (25-7, 25-16).

Caroline Ostman had 21 kills on the night, with Katie Doering adding 11, Taylor Haskins 10, Andie Karmel eight and Destiny Stewart seven. Allana McInnis and Madi Bright split the setting duties, with 29 and 26 assists, respectively.

Harrison got 37 points off aces, with Stewart and Jocelyn Mahayag each converting six and Haskins five. Defensively, Mahayag’s 14 digs led the way, followed by Taylor’s 12 and Stewart’s 11.

Harrison (38-8, 5-0) will host Sonoraville and Creekview on Thursday before wrapping area play Tuesday with fellow contender North Cobb, Hillgrove and Campbell.

Lady Warriors cruise through area matches: North Cobb beat Pebblebrook (25-6, 25-5), South Cobb (25-8, 25-9) in two Area 3AAAAAA matches.

McEachern then made it a little tougher on North Cobb, but the Lady Warriors still won 25-13, 25-10.

Karla Radillo served 12 aces in the three matches. Savanna Gonzales had 16 kills, Madi Dukes ended up with 12 and Caitlyn Woodruff had nine.

Jenna Woodruff led with 2½ blocks, and Taylor Parrish dished out 45 assists.

North Cobb (29-10, 5-0) will play in the Over the Mountain Tournament this weekend at Hoover, Ala.

Marietta handles area foes: The Lady Blue Devils beat Cherokee (18-25, 32-30, 25-19) and Wheeler (25-16, 25-15) in an Area 4AAAAAA tri-match.

Claire Bennett led Marietta in kills with 11. Jordan Edwards finished with eight, Chander Warren finished with six and Kirby Bostic had four.

Bailey West had 23 assists and added eight kills.

Marietta will travel to Woodstock on Thursday for a tri-match that also includes Gilmer.

Hillgrove sweeps area matches: The Lady Hawks beat South Cobb (25-7, 25-4), McEachern (25-14, 22-25, 25-22) and Pebblebrook (25-18, 25-13) in an Area 3AAAAAA quad-match.

Myah Martin finished with 15 aces and 60 aces, while Allison Purdue ended up with six kills and one ace. Janna Jernigan had nine aces, six digs and five kills, Brittany Tullier had 11 aces and nine kills and Chioma Okonkwo came away with 24 kills and four aces.

Hillgrove (16-15, 5-0) will play Campbell, Harrison and host North Cobb in another area quad-match Tuesday.

Kell sweeps tri-match: The Lady Longhorns beat Osborne (25-8, 25-7) and Cambridge (25-21, 23-25, 25-19) in Area 7AAAAA play.

Ashley Jones had 19 kills to lead the way and added 17 digs, 1½ blocks and seven aces. Hayley Purcell had three kills and one dig and five solo blocks. Eliana Tiller had six digs and eight aces, while Brittany Stocus had seven kills, two digs, 1½ blocks and six aces.

Joanna Tiller had 27 assists, 11 aces and 10 digs.

Kell (18-16, 4-2) will play against Hillgrove and host Etowah on Thursday.

Allatoona still spotless in area: The Lady Buccaneers remained undefeated in Area 5AAAAA after beating South Paulding (25-12, 25-13) and Paulding County (25-8, 25-10) at home.

Jaslynn Gwyn collected eight kills for Allatoona (13-14, 8-0), while Julia Douglas had eight aces. Katie Cory chipped in 17 digs.

Allatoona will host Cass and South Cobb on Thursday.

Lassiter splits area matches: The Lady Trojans beat Milton (18-25, 25-17, 25-22), but they fell to Roswell (21-25, 25-21, 25-20) in Area 4AAAAAA play.

Libby Bochniak had 27 kills and 31 digs to lead Lassiter. Annie Chandler added 14 kills and 18 digs, Alexus Holt finished with 13 kills and two blocks, Kayla Merwin had 12 digs, Kaylee Yanes had 22 digs and Sam Link ended up with 10 digs and 54 assists.

Lassiter (23-16, 2-2) will travel to Blessed Trinity on Thursday for a tri-match with Kennesaw Mountain.

Weber 3, Dominion Christian 1: Despite Lucy Niverson’s double-double, the Lady Knights were unable to build off a first-set win, falling 12-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22.

Niverson, Dominion’s freshman setter, had 20 assists and 21 digs. Senior Sabrina Johnston contributed six kills and 4½ blocks.

SOFTBALL

South Cobb 12, Westlake 1:
Becky Collins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored two runs for the Lady Eagles.

Kiera Dudley was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Dezirae Rhodes was 1-for-3 with a two-run double.

Brittany Rhodes gave up no earned runs in seven innings and had eight strikeouts to get her 17th win.

South Cobb (19-7) will host Marietta on Oct. 1.

Sprayberry 7, North Springs 3: The Lady Yellow Jackets pounded out 13 hits and scored at least one run in each of the first four innings to take the Region 7AAAAA home win.

Charlie Smith batted 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. She led off the fourth inning with a home run to put Sprayberry (8-12, 3-5) in front 6-1. Smith also allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out five in a complete game.

Taylor Bates was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Kerstyn Murray had two hits and an RBI.

Sprayberry will host Creekview on Thursday.

Allatoona 6, South Paulding 3: The Lady Buccaneers concluded their regular season with a come-from-behind Region 5AAAAA victory on the road.

Allatoona (21-7, 10-0) trailed 2-0 through two and 3-2 through four before scoring four straight. It tied the contest in the top of the fifth, and Madison Halyard belted the go-ahead run on a solo home run with one out in the sixth.

Halyard batted 3-for-4, while Madisyn Escue was

3-for-3 with an RBI. Elisabeth Federici batted 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Dani Lewis was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Makenzie Colwart (15-3) allowed three runs — one earned — on six hits and struck out seven to get the complete-game victory.

Allatoona, which had 14 hits, will be the No. 1 seed in the Region 5AAAAA tournament and will host the event, which begins Tuesday.

Pope 4, Cambridge 1: The Lady Buccaneers sent eight batters to the plate in a four-run fourth inning and held on for the Region 7AAAAA road victory.

Pope (12-7, 6-2) scored two runs off three straight two-out singles in the fourth to break a 2-all tie.

Ellie Viland was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Sydney Segers batted 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Ellyn Strother and Katie Deady each had a single and an RBI. Deady also stole a base.

Kelly Barnhill (3-0) gave up one earned run on two hits and struck out 11 in a complete game.

Pope will host Forsyth Central on Thursday.

Late Monday

Marietta 9, Centennial 0 (5 inn.):
The Lady Blue Devils scored five runs in the third inning — all coming with two outs — to take control.

Lacey Mount helped with a bases-clearing double in the third inning to break the game open.

Synclaire Scott was 1-for-3 with a two-run double in the third, Liz Osburn added a two-run triple in the fourth and KC Nugent also accounted for an RBI hit.

Taylor Hartenbach went five innings and struck out seven to get the win. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate.

Marietta will host Westlake today.
