Mr. Louis J. “Jody” BALZ, age 65, of Marietta, GA. and Reno, NV., passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013, with his brother at his side. Jody was a US Army veteran and served in Vietnam. He was a member of the “MP” corps. He received numerous awards including a “Purple Heart” for wounds received during a missile attack. Jody was a 1st Lieutenant and left the Army to pursuit a career in Law Enforcement. He was a member of the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) for a number of years and finished his career in Reno, NV., as an Operation Supervisor in the Casino Industry. Jody is survived by his brother Robert L. Petersen and Robert’s wife, Donnee. Jody’s favorite aunt, Carol Smith; niece, Norie Gray; and grandfather, Lyle Hammermister will dearly miss him. He also leaves behind nieces: Jennifer Lovett and Melissa Betts; grandnieces: Dana Lovett, Lexie Lovett, and Kinley Betts; uncle Del Smith, and his wife, Pat; and many cousins. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at Georgia National Cemetery on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00AM, with Dr. William Camp presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Roswell Street Baptist Church, 774 Roswell St. SE, Marietta, GA. 30060-2178.
