MABLETON — Harrison needed just two game-changing plays to make it long evening for Pebblebrook, and a pleasant one for the Hoyas.

Michael Ryan and Joey Connors each scored a touchdown as the Hoyas remained undefeated in Region 4AAAAAA with a 24-9 victory over Pebblebrook at Falcon Stadium on Friday.

“It’s good to be 2-0 in the region but we got a lot of work to do,” Harrison coach Matt Dickmann said. “We’re just a little sloppy but what was great about tonight is it was a total team effort to win the game. On special teams, defense and offense everybody contributed.”

Already claiming a 7-0 lead thanks to a 3-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Grimes, Harrison quickly added to its advantage on the next play from scrimmage when Connors stepped in front of a lateral pass by Dezmon Huntley and sprinted to the end zone for a 39-yard score with 5:27 left in the first quarter.

“What is great is that Joey Connors always seems to come up with something,” Dickmann said.

The Hoyas (3-1, 2-0) would see their lead reduced later in the quarter on a 43-yard field goal by Eddie Castenada, but they would deliver another blow to further stymie the Falcons’ hopes.

With just 1 second left before halftime, Harrison blocked a 43-yard field-goal attempt by Castenada and Ryan scooped the loose ball, and raced 74 yards for a touchdown.

“We practiced that scoop and score on the field goal on Thursday,” Dickmann said. “We made a point of rolling the ball out there and showing them we don’t want to fall on the ball. We want to scoop that and score. Thank goodness for practicing that stuff on Thursday.”

In the second half, Jonathan Hutson made a 32-yard field goal — which was setup by a 59-yard completion from Lorenzo Nunez to Drevon Jones — to add to the Hoyas’ lead before Pebblebrook (2-2, 0-2) finally reached the end zone on a 23-yard run by Perry Seldon early in the fourth quarter.

Seth Cowan also had an interception for Harrison, which has won the last two meetings against Pebblebrook.

Justin Simms had six catches for 120 yards for the Falcons.
