Jane Elizabeth Pettit MacGregor, 96, of Marietta, GA, died at 2:53 AM, Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice, Marietta, GA. She was born March 26, 1917 in Lockport, NY to Roy and Celia Pettit. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in her formative years and entered college at age 16, graduating with a B.S. in Home Economics from New York State Teacher’s College, Buffalo, NY at age 20. Jane also earned a degree from Providence Bible Institute, Providence, RI. Mrs. MacGregor is survived by her children, Norma MacGregor (Ronald) Hull of Marietta; Thomas (Bonnie) MacGregor of Fort Benning, GA; Rebecca Bryan MacGregor of Marietta; Robert (Margaret) MacGregor of Marietta; Jean MacGregor (Mark) Roberts of Lebanon, TN; Paul (Patricia) MacGregor of Statham, GA; twenty-eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, John P. MacGregor, in 2001, and her husband, Chaplain (Colonel) John M. MacGregor, US Army, Retired, in 2007. She will be remembered as a grand lady who loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and thoroughly enjoyed her life as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and a dear friend to so many through her gifts of hospitality and mercy. She is rejoicing in her Savior’s presence after a long pilgrimage upon this earth. Following a private interment, a memorial service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, September 21st at Christ Presbyterian Church, 495 Terrell Mill Road, Marietta, GA 30067 ~ (770) 956-7572. Chaplain, Colonel Thomas MacGregor, U.S. Army (Ret.) will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Friday, September 20th at Carmichael Funeral Home (770) 424-4924.
