"Around Town" wrong on EMC board's desire

DEAR EDITOR:

Tuesday’s Around Town column reported that the Cobb EMC board was “eager to see the case (against former CEO Dwight Brown) finally end.” This phrase, appearing near comments opining a lack of commitment by the current district attorney, can lead to an inference the Cobb EMC Board wants something less than justice in the case. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Implying that cost would be an impetus to seeking less than full closure is likewise incorrect. While the legal bills are substantial, Cobb EMC was insured for such events and our 177,000 members are not bearing any undue cost in this process.

The Cobb EMC Board has studiously avoided any involvement or contact with the district attorney’s office. It is not our role to prosecute a criminal case or influence the prosecution of one.

We are confounded that anyone would ascribe to us a desire to short-circuit this case just as we near the close of our own forensic audit.

The board is absolutely unanimous there should be no whitewash and no witch hunt when it comes to Mr. Brown. Rather we hope for full and proper adjudication to determine what, if any, criminal acts were committed. To imply or infer the Board of Cobb EMC seeks any other end is completely wrong.

Edward B. Crowell

Chairman of the Board, Cobb EMC

Ed,

It is without hesitation that I support the EMC Board's attitude regarding Mr. Brown.

The DA's case has been held up only by the legal ploys by Mr. Brown's attorney. While he has the legal right to pursue them, they have really done nothing other than slower down the process and added frustration to those who don't understand "why or how" it happens.

While I do understand, I don't like it either.

That is still a separate issue from the Board's stance and some can't distinguish between the two issues. Please continue the good works that the Board has undertaken.

I am glad Mr. Crowell corrected the misinformed piece in the MDJ. However, the article raises a lot of concerns about the DA and if this case will ever be tried in a court of law. It again shows the possibility of outside influence from either the Brown's or the Barnes Law Firm.

Hopefully we will know soon if the members will ever see justice and if Brown will be held accountable.

Mr. Crowell,

I know you came into the Board late in the game, but you have to excuse us for not believing anything that comes from the mouth of anybody associated with EMC.
