MARIETTA — Marietta Police diverted traffic away from the Square on Wednesday afternoon as they investigated a wreck that involved one of their own at the intersection of South Marietta Parkway and Atlanta Road.

Drivers and passengers of the civilian vehicles were not injured, but the police officer was transported to Kennestone Hospital and was listed as stable.

Four vehicles were involved in the incident, which took place at 4:16 p.m. including a Marietta police cruiser, which suffered the most damage, a red Ford F-350 pickup truck and two other pickup trucks.

The F-350 was approaching the intersection with a green light when he was struck by the officer, said the driver of the pickup.

The driver was pulled to the side by Marietta police officers before having an opportunity to identify himself to the MDJ.

“All of a sudden he hit me,” the driver said, adding he was told the officer in the crash was responding to a fight.

Police later confirmed the officer involved in the wreck was responding to a fight in progress and was driving with blue lights and siren activated.

Six police cruisers along with a Marietta Fire Department fire engine responded to the wreck.
