ACWORTH — The younger brother of a former North Cobb High School football coach arrested in May on sexual exploitation of children charges was arrested last week on similar charges although police say the cases were unrelated.

Cole Thomas Thackston, 20, of Acworth was arrested Aug. 19 and charged with three counts of felony sexual exploitation of a child. His brother and former Cobb Schools football coach, 28-year-old Ryne Thomas Thackston, was arrested on May 24 on one count of the same charge.

Cole Thackston was released the same day as his arrest on a $25,000 bond. Ryne Thackston was released on a $20,000 bond.

According to the warrant, Cole Thackston is accused of having pictures on a computer at his residence in the 4200 block of Hillcrest Drive in Acworth on May 15 that depict three girls, between 1 and 3 years old, performing sexual acts of sodomy with a man.

Ryne Thackston, also of Acworth, was accused of sending sexually explicit photographs via text messaging to and from a 17-year-old girl on March 15, according to the warrant.

“(Ryne Thackston) received numerous digital images and videos of the victim via text messaging,” the warrant states.

The videos and photographs showed the teenage girl nude or partially nude and engaging in “lewd acts” or “sexually explicit conduct,” the warrant says.

Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb Police said the two investigations are separate and not related. He was unable to release more information on either case.
