William (Bill) Lawson Cowart, Jr., 80, died on August 21, 2013 at his home in Powder Springs, Georgia. Born November 12, 1932, in Jacksonville, Florida, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Lucas Cowart. He was the son of the late Jessie Margaret Walker Cowart. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Jean Cowart Bales and her husband, Bruce, of Tucker, GA, his son Alan Brian Cowart and his wife, Cindy, of Marietta, GA, and his daughter Karen Lynn Cowart Burrell and her husband, Gary, of Acworth, GA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Stephanie Anne Henry Shanholtzer (Glenn), Stacey Jean Henry Rushing (Dalton), Amanda Lynn Burrell Gordon (Monroe), and Gary Clifton Burrell, II, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant great-granddaughter. Bill spent much of his adult life in Atlanta, GA. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany in the 1950s. He spent 42 years in various roles at Lockheed Corporation and retired as Vice President and Director of Support Operations at Lockheed Space Operations in Titusville, FL. Following his retirement, they moved to Washington, GA, and then to Powder Springs in 1996. At his request, no service will be held. Memorials may be made to University Heights United Methodist Church, 1267 Balsam Dr., Decatur, GA 30033, where his granddaughter, Stacey Rushing, is the Senior Pastor. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory, Macland Chapel, in Powder Springs, GA, is handling the arrangements.
