MARIETTA — A Mableton man and his girlfriend have been indicted on charges they murdered and robbed his 78-year-old grandfather before going on a joy ride in the elderly man’s truck.

Police say Casey Collins, 30, and Sarah Cook, 23, killed Edward Smith, 78, of Lilburn in early May.

The grand jury indictment handed down Thursday accuses Collins and Cook of strangling Smith with a belt and stabbing him while he was in his truck.

After taking Smith’s life, the couple then took his wallet and rode around metro Atlanta with the man’s body in the back of the pickup truck, police say.

They stopped at a Wal-Mart, according to reports, and eventually left the truck at their home in south Cobb.

Smith was found dead inside his white 1997 Ford truck about 9 a.m. on May 7, according to the warrants. The truck was parked at the residence of the two suspects in the 300 block of Kemolay Road in south Cobb County.

“The investigation revealed that Casey Collins and Sarah Cook were the last people to have contact with Smith,” according to the warrant.

Police said in May that Cook admitted that she and Collins assaulted Smith in his truck May 2 and that she stabbed Smith twice in the chest with a knife while Collins used a belt to choke his grandfather.

After Smith had died, police said Collins removed the wallet from his grandfather’s pocket and stole money and credit cards. The pair then drove Smith’s truck around metro Atlanta for “several hours” while the grandfather’s body was concealed inside.

They eventually abandoned Smith’s truck back at their residence in south Cobb but did not remove the body, the warrant states.

Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb Police said Smith’s family contacted local police Sunday, May 5, to report that they had not heard from him since the previous Thursday.

Police began their investigation and were eventually made aware of the grandfather’s body being discovered at his home.

Police wouldn’t say who reported finding Smith’s body.

Collins and Cook are charged with malice murder, felony murder, four counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and concealing the death of another.

Several of the charges carry life sentences upon conviction.

Collins and Cook have been held at the Cobb County Jail without bond since their arrests May 7 by Cobb Police.

Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Mike Carlson and Assistant District Attorney Marc Cella are prosecuting the cases for District Attorney Vic Reynolds’ office. The cases have been assigned to Cobb Superior Court Judge Greg Poole.

Arraignment dates have not been set.

Collins is represented by attorney Michael J. Ivan of Marietta. Cook is represented by Marietta attorney Maddox Kilgore.

What's missing from this story? All your racist and nationalist comments! It's almost like it don't count to the MDJ blog's crowd when it's white folk allegedly committing even the most heinous crimes of all. Why is that do you suppose?

Here I will give it a try:

Come on you crazy white psychopaths, get an education and a job or go back to Europe! You obviously knew your grandfather but it must be on the maternal side because you surely don't know your pops do ya! That is darn sure enough of this alleged white on white crime by US Citizens!
