The Dave Young letter, “Cowards with guns will always be afraid,” Thursday’s MDJ, was ludicrous since our founding fathers gave us the Second Amendment to keep us from being afraid of criminals who would do us harm. The letter, like the media, distorted the facts, then fabricated its own “facts” to try to outlaw guns. Murder victim Joshua Chellew of south Cobb might be alive today if he had had a weapon to protect himself from the four black teens who caused his death.

As crime continues to increase, “Stand Your Ground” laws may need to be increased instead of being abolished. Very soon after we moved to Haiti, we were concerned when our dog went missing (in the states that could be a set-up to be burglarized). I contacted the Embassy’s local attorney who advised us to let the burglar (who was usually armed with a sharp machete or other weapon) get inside the residence before using deadly force and then to make sure it was effective since “it would only cost us about a $200 burial fee.” If the intruder was only wounded, we would be liable for a hospital bill that could run to $1,000 or more.

This is a drastic system, but it works, and we could sleep soundly without being afraid.

@Err. So you are saying that because he "flashed blue" it was okay for four guys to beat him, chase him into the street and leave him in the path of oncoming traffic?

Even if what you say is true and the guyw as dumb enough to start a fight with four other guys, that doe snto mean it was not a "hate" crime.

Also, it harldy changes the fact that if he had been armed, the outcome would have been different.

According to the warrant, Chellew flashed blue colors and claimed allegiance to the “Crips” street gang. Three of the suspects were dressed in red, the colors affiliated with the “Crips” longtime rival, the “Bloods.” The exchange was captured on the station’s surveillance cameras.

According to the arrest warrant, each are members of the “Re-Up” gang.

But the media wants this to look like a HATE crime.
