Foley wrong on Ted Cruz, Joe McCarthy

DEAR EDITOR:

MDJ columnist Kevin Foley is doing his part in trying to destroy Sen. Ted Cruz, a conservative anti-socialist who is quickly becoming a danger to Democrat future plans.

Most Americans today think that the word “McCarthyism” is a word like the “N,” word only worse.

Joe McCarthy was called “Tail Gunner Joe” because he was the machine gunner in the tail of a B-17 bomber during World War II, shooting down German fighter planes as his bomber destroyed German factories below. I doubt that Kevin would have volunteered for that job.

But Foley was right when he said McCarthy was wrong about “205 Communists in the State Department.” The Venona papers prove that there were closer to 400 that we know of.

Foley will next tell us that President Nixon was driven from office because he knew about the Democratic headquarters break-in and not because he as a young senator played a key role in uncovering the work as a Soviet spy by State Department official Alger Hiss.

@ anonymous (whoever you are) - Who said any of the Kennedys were heroes of mine? The whole Kennedy family was friendly with McCarthy. So what?

Mr. Foley, you honestly think Venona is BS? You are liberal kook if you do. Venona didn't come straight from Glen Beck. Its been known and reported in extensively since the late 90's. Venona, along with other declassified US and Soviet documents proved Joe McCarthy was correct. Lastly, Joe McCarthy had a list of 57 Communists or Soviet subversives, not 205. Stop repeating provable liberal lies about McCarthy!

Mr. Foley - if you have a retort worthy of print, by all means share your progressive wit and wisdom with us all so that we may be "enlightened" in the same manner as you and your liberal friends. If , however, the best you can do is to deal with which branch of service the senator served in during WWII, perhaps you are unable to effectively respond to the legitimacy of the reference made concerning the NSA's release of the Venona Project papers. In that case, attempting to respond because you felt the need to one up the reader's comment says more about you personally than any point you were attempting to make.

No-BS (whoever you are) - Mr. Albetario got McCarthy's military service wrong. I merely pointed that out. I didn't want to embarrass him any further by noting that the Venona papers nonsense came straight from rodeo clown and conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck and has zero credibility.

"Joe McCarthy was called “Tail Gunner Joe” because he was the machine gunner in the tail of a B-17 bomber during World War II, shooting down German fighter planes as his bomber destroyed German factories below."

Except Joe McCarthy was a Marine in the South Pacific.

That war "information" on McCarty is incorrect.

Politicians have ahabit i lying abot their military service and recommending themselves for medals. McCarty was a piker, thought, compared to "Band-aid Purple Heart" John Kerry. He turned it into a science. His greatest achievement was abandoning his command to chase down and shoot, in the back, an unarmed and wounded enemy.

I also compare Cruz to Joe McCarthy but in quite a different way than you. I would be interested in your pespective on all the lives Joe McCarthy ruined with his false claims. Or does being anti communist trump everthing? And Nixon, please listen to the Oval Office tapes, maybe they will refresh your view of history.
