Raymond B. King, president and CEO of Zoo Atlanta, will deliver the address at Southern Polytechnic State University’s 107th commencement ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. in the gymnasium.

SPSU plans to confer approximately 120 undergraduate and 60 graduate degrees during the summer ceremony.

In June 2010, King assumed leadership of Zoo Atlanta with a staff of about 220 employees and an annual budget of $16 million. Under his direction, annual attendance has increased almost 30 percent to 866,000 in just two years. At the same time, King has led Zoo Atlanta in raising more than $21 million through a capital campaign.

Prior to joining the zoo’s leadership team, King enjoyed a 22-year career with SunTrust Banks Inc., most recently serving as senior vice president for community affairs in Atlanta. In that role, he oversaw various civic and philanthropic activities, including grant-making, public relations and employee volunteerism.

In recognition of his community leadership, King was named one of the “100 Most Influential Atlantans” in 2012 by the Atlanta Business Chronicle; received the 2009 United Way Chairman’s Award and was placed on the Watch List of “25 Atlantans Making a Difference” by Atlanta Business magazine in 2007, along with numerous other honors.

King is an Atlanta native and a graduate of Georgia Tech, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management.

SPSU’s commencement ceremony is open to the public and will be in the university’s gymnasium located on the south end of campus at 1100 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta, one mile west of I-75’s exit 263.
