A Cobb County jury on Thursday convicted a Marietta man of aggravated child molestation against a teenage girl.

Adriel Noel Mann, 34, was found guilty of one count of aggravated child molestation for forcing the girl into a sexual act in November 2011. The victim is related to Mann’s then-girlfriend, and the incident was immediately reported to police.

Mann was acquitted of another count of aggravated child molestation involving the same victim.

The state’s case included allegations of aggravated child molestation on two occasions spanning approximately 11 months, said Assistant District Attorney Susan Treadaway, who prosecuted the case.

“The teen’s account of how and when the molestation occurred was corroborated by others living in the household, as well as a family member of the victim who was visiting the home at the time,” Treadaway said. “The victim, now 16, gave emotional testimony concerning the defendant’s perpetration of this heinous act.”

At sentencing, the state will present evidence of the defendant’s five prior felony convictions in Virginia, and based upon those convictions, Georgia law requires the court to impose a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, Treadaway said.

Cobb Superior Court Judge James Bodiford set sentencing for 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 22.

The trial began July 15 with jury selection.

Mann is represented by Atlanta attorney James Gibert.
