MARIETTA — A Cobb County jury has convicted Andrew Charles Pride, 31, of cruelty to children in the first degree after he beat a toddler who was trying to become potty trained.

The evidence showed that Pride repeatedly whipped a 22-month-old boy on his genitals, causing bleeding and leaving welts, on Aug. 17, 2012, at an Austell residence.

He was convicted of one count of cruelty to children in the first degree, which carries a punishment of five to 20 years in prison.

The jury deadlocked on a second count of the same charge, which accused Pride of enticing an older child to say the child had inflicted the beating on the toddler.

Cobb Superior Court Judge Rob Leonard set sentencing for 8:30 a.m. today.

“This wasn’t an accident. This was malicious,” said Assistant District Attorney Chuck Boring. “And it was all because of potty training. Mr. Pride struck a 22-month-old baby in the groin multiple times because he wouldn’t pee in the potty. This man’s actions are the definition of malice.”

The trial began Monday with jury selection. Atlanta attorney Lawrence Daniel was appointed to represent Pride.

Too bad we can't give like-for-like sentences. As in, beat this man in his genitals 22 times for 22 days -- a day and a punch for each month of this child's life. Same for the man that threw the puppy off the balcony. Throw him off a balconey for every month of the puppy's life. Now, that would be a deterrent to crime, don't you think?

The sentense of five to twenty doesn't mean what it says. just wait a week or so and go on the website for the State Dept of Corrections and you will see the "max date of realease" that is the latest date that he will beheld barring any further chargers while in prison. The most he will serve is 18-24 months tops. Where is "true in sentenseing?"

Why don't we whip him in his genitals and see how he likes it. the poor kid is probably scared for life.

Just another person who doesn't deserve kids.
