BRYAN, Ruth Joyner

Ruth Joyner Bryan, age 96, a resident of Marietta, Georgia for 45 years, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles E. Bryan, Jr. in 1988. She is survived by two daughters & sons-in-law, June Bryan Jones (Charles) of Snellville, GA, and Nancy Bryan Franklin (Ron) of Griffin, GA; ten grandchildren, Andy Jones (Kathy), Brian Jones (Melinda), David Jones (Elizabeth Webb), Ron Franklin, Jr. (Amanda), Jon Franklin (Stacy), and Karin Franklin Pochmara (Kent); ten great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends in Christ at First United Methodist Church of Marietta. Mrs. Bryan was also preceded in death by her parents, and five siblings. Mrs. Bryan was born on August 8, 1916 to Lillie Florence Maughan Joyner and William Henry Joyner. She was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School, and a graduate of the University of Alabama. Mrs. Bryan worked for the Dean of Commerce and Business Administration at Alabama and was a former civilian employee of the United States Air Force in Memphis, TN. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Marietta, where she did volunteer work and sang in the choir. She was an accomplished artist, avid bridge player, and served on the Democratic Women’s Committee in Marietta. Mrs. Bryan was deeply committed to the Marietta community and her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. This southern lady will be deeply missed by her adoring family. A Graveside Service Honoring the Life of Mrs. Bryan will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta, GA with Rev. Elaine Wilder officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at FUMC of Marietta in the Reception Hall (located beneath the main Sanctuary).
