J.D. Newton, age 73, born in Atlanta on Sept, 20, 1939, died June 29, 2013. J.D. retired from Southern Company after 34 years of service. He was an active member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Fannie Lou Newton and brother Charles Newton. Surviving are his wife, Becky Newton; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Merav Newton; step-children, Elaine and Joe Isley, Shannon and Greg Hardy, Kevin and April Hambrick; and eight grandkids, Evan and Ava Newton, Dalton and Grayson Isley, Seth and Skye Hardy, and Faith and Amelia Hambrick. Brothers, Joe (Sue) Newton, and Carl Newton (Martha Rakestraw), sisters Elizabeth (Bill) Lewis and Edna Smith, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the Smyrna First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Lyle officiating. Interment will be in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna.
