The Cincinnati, Ohio-based grocer has pumped $5 million worth of improvements into the store at 3600 Dallas Highway, which is a prime location across from The Avenue West shopping center.
Enhancements include an expanded deli-bakery area, upgraded produce and floral departments as well as improvements to the meat and seafood sections and a new storefront.
Public bathrooms inside the store have also been remodeled and Kroger has modernized the décor throughout. Several checkout-lanes have been added to help customers get in and out faster.
The store has also added 25 new employees, bringing total employment to 154 associates, said Glynn Jenkins, spokesperson for Kroger’s Atlanta Division.
Work on the project began in October 2012.
The store opened in January 1988 and this marks its first major expansion/renovation. After the 2,384-square-foot expansion, the store will offer almost 68,000 square feet of floor space.
Jenkins said a lot goes into assessing a store’s readiness for a major upgrade.
“Our staff spends hours researching and evaluating the needs of residents in the community,” he said. “Along with careful evaluation of the needs of customers in the surrounding area, strategic planning and the design of the facility both play an important role whenever we renovate an existing location.”
He said a typical Kroger store serves a 3.5-mile radius.
“The Marietta community is extremely important to us, and expanding the location along with other store improvements will offer even more choices and convenience for our customers,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins said Kroger will continue to remodel stores to suit the unique needs of its customers but wouldn’t give any clues as to which Cobb County store might be the next to receive a major face-lift.
Within the last two years, Kroger has remodeled the 3330 Cobb Pkwy. location in Acworth and built a 93,000-square-foot store at 3240 S. Cobb Drive in Smyrna in January of last year.
