NEW YORK (AP) — Paula Deen lost another part of her empire on Monday: Smithfield Foods said it was dropping her as a spokeswoman.

The announcement came days after the Food Network said it would not renew the celebrity cook's contract in the wake of revelations that she used racial slurs in the past.

Smithfield sold Paula Deen-branded hams in addition to using her as a spokeswoman. In a statement, the company said it "condemns the use of offensive and discriminatory language and behavior of any kind. Therefore, we are terminating our partnership with Paula Deen."

QVC also said it was reviewing its deal with Paula Deen Enterprises to sell the star's cookbooks and cookware.

"QVC shares the concerns being raised around the unfortunate Paula Deen situation," QVC said in a statement. "We are closely monitoring these events and the ongoing litigation. We are reviewing our business relationship with Ms. Deen, and in the meantime, we have no immediate plans to have her appear on QVC."

Sears said the company "is currently exploring next steps as they pertain to Ms. Deen's products." Wal-Mart, which sells Deen's cookware, was expected to have a statement later Monday.

The rapid downfall came after revelations that 66-year-old Food Network star admitted using racial slurs in the past in a deposition in a discrimination lawsuit. Deen was asked under oath if she had ever used the N-word. "Yes, of course," Deen said, though she added, "It's been a very long time."

Deen insisted she and her family do not tolerate prejudice, and in a videotaped apology, she asked fans and critics for forgiveness. It had been posted online for about an hour when the Food Network released a terse statement that it "will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month." The network refused to comment further.

Las Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment Corporation, which has Deen's restaurants in some of its casinos, said Friday that it "will continue to monitor the situation." Publisher Ballantine, which has a new Deen book scheduled to roll out this fall, used similar words.

Earlier Monday, NBC's Matt Lauer said Deen would appear Wednesday on "Today." Last week she abruptly canceled on the morning show before posting her videotaped apologies.

I find it extremely amusing that Lib in Cobb permits themself to call other people names, however, Lib in Cobb does not extend that permission to anyone else. Please see all the name calling and labeling Lib does.

The biggest racists I know are black. I have done my best not to think stereotypical thoughts about certain races, but everytime I meet a respectable minority, I meet several who prove me wrong. Dont believe me, I dare any liberal in Cobb County, minority or not, to move to West End Atlanta or the Six Flags area. Go on, do it. Hypocrites.

@Funny: So you are claiming that liberals can only be liberal if they reside in the correct zip code?

The treatment of Paul Deen is an absolute disgrace! Political Correctness run amok! So, liberals are licking their chops, hoping to destroy someone who, two to one, they don't know, will never know, but still they hate her. What have we come to in this country?

Using racially charged inappropriate terms is never acceptable, no matter who is using those words.

Sponsors who appeal to a very wide audience don't want to be associated with people like Deen, a continued relationship would result in significant fallout.

Yes, Deen told the truth while giving an under oath deposition, that was her responsibility, under the penalties of perjury. If she lied, there would have been someone who would testify to the contrary.

Deen is not being fired for telling the truth, she is being dropped by sponsors because it is very bad business not drop her. Not unlike the sponsors who dropped Tiger Woods and Fuzzy Zoeller.

I must remind everyone who reads this, Deen is currently being sued because she presided over a business where a culture of racial and sexual harassment was the norm.

Multiple PR firms have said,"Deen will never recover from this". Deen is not Tiger.

I have the scoop. Paula appeared in the last month on several foodie shows, Rachel, Chew, acting ditsy. Word has it she is actually working to get out of all her endorsements and contracts without penalty without harming the careers of her two boys. I think she duped it well enough so far. Only a handful left to go and the lady is free, baby, free. Without penalty except for maybe handing out a few hundred thousand here and a few hundred thousand there to individual lawsuits. To this lady, a hundred thousand is like a ten dollar bill to us. Smart, baby, smart.

I just don't get it! Here in the good ole USA, Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, and just because a successful business woman, who just happens to be white, admits to using a word that start with the letter "N" she is branded for life as a bigot? Ran out of town on a rail? What is it about THAT word that is sooo deroggatory? Is it sacrid? I find the word "cracker" offensive also, what about that? People talk about equality and yet they want special treatment, they can't have it both ways.

Don't look for Paula to be collecting food stamps or moving in with Bobby. She can lose 100% of her endorsements, pay settlements on 5,000 lawsuits, and still have more money left over than the latest Lotto winner. (Maybe this is a well planned exit to get out from under enormous responsibility and go enjoy the sunset. You never know and I suspect!)

Is this the same Smithfield that just sold out to China?

Paula will be the head chef at the White House if she is still alive when Republicans regain.. Oh never mind, they'll never make it in time.

Chip Rogers will have to give her a cooking show at PBS.
Owned by China

Smithfield was just purchased by a company in China and is the larest buy out for a company to China. Please do not purchase Smithfield hams or the following products: Armour, Eckrich, Gwaltney, Kretschmar. China also owns the AMC Theaters and is targeting several other companies. Paula will find someone else to support her. The whole siutation is ridiculous considering blacks call each other the n word all day long.

@Old Timer: let's wait and see. I will bet dimes to donuts she is going to be found liable for presiding over a hostile workplace involving racism and sexual harassment.
