Mr. David Michael “Mike” Cook, 66, of Hemlock Drive entered into rest June 23, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in the Chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with the Rev. Butch Baston officiating. Mr. Cook was born in Sand Mountain, Ala., to the late Robert Donald Cook Sr., and the late Mattie Braswell Cook. He was a 1965 graduate of Sprayberry High School in Marietta. Following graduation, he played minor league baseball with the Detroit Tigers for five years. Mr. Cook then worked in the insurance business and retired as a Cotton States representative with Mike Cook Agency after 30 years of service. He attended Union Baptist Church in Thomson. Survivors include his beloved wife, Christie N. Cook; sons, Derek Michael Cook, David Charles Cook, both of Canton; step son, Allen Sikes of Camak; step daughter, Cori Reese of Wrightsville; brother, Johnny Cook of Woodstock; sister, Vickie Cook Turner of Brunswick; and nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Donald Cook Jr. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or to Muscular Dystrophy Association. Beggs Funeral Home in Thomson is in charge of arrangements.
