Crews have finished removing debris from public roads throughout Cobb, but they will now have to start picking up the debris that’s been left along the sides of the roads, county spokesman Robert Quigley said.
Cobb DOT is also offering clean-up assistance to residents who need to remove debris that fell on their private property.
“We are in the process of picking up what we cut up after the storm,” Quigley said.
There were approximately 70 trees that fell in public roads that county crews, who worked through the weekend, have had to cut and remove since Thursday.
Since they can’t go onto private property to remove debris, Cobb DOT is offering the public an opportunity to let the county pick up their yard waste at no charge.
“If they can get it to the curb, we’ll put the work order in to get it picked up,” Quigley said. “It could take up to two weeks to get all the material picked up, though.”
Because of the massive storm clean-up effort, litter pickup and grass cutting crews will not be performing those duties over the next few weeks, he said.
“The impact on homeowners is huge and we realize that we can’t get to everybody as quickly as we want to but we do feel like our crews are giving 100 percent,” he said.
Crews with Cobb EMC have also continued to stay busy through the weekend.
Spokesperson Beth McMillan said that at the height of the storm, which was between 7 and 10 p.m., 34 breakers were out.
They are also in the process of repairing 40-plus broken power poles.
“The last of the outages resulting from Thursday’s storm were brought back online between 1 and 2 p.m. (Sunday) afternoon,” she said.
During any given time, Cobb EMC had between 100 and 200 people in the field responding to the storm damage, which would equate to about 25 crews at one time.
No injuries to Cobb EMC crew members have been reported and, as confirmed by Cobb government, Cobb Police and Cobb DOT, the worst-hit area was in northeast Cobb along Roswell, Johnson Ferry and Post Oak Tritt roads.
Private property owners requesting the county to pickup debris should have the debris at the curb this week.
