MABLETON — A 4-year-old boy is in stable condition after he fell from the second-story window of his home onto concrete Thursday morning.

Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police said 911 received the emergency call about 10:40 a.m. and that the fall reportedly happened at a home in the 5900 block of Megcole Way in Mableton.

Detectives were at the hospital until Thursday afternoon with the family trying to determine exactly what happened, but Bowman could not say how the child fell out of the window.

“They are ruling it as an accident,” he said.

Bowman also didn’t say who called 911 or who was at the home at the time of the fall.

The child, whose name is not being released by police, was first taken by ambulance to a parking lot at Pebblebrook High School nearby, then later airlifted and taken by helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta-Scottish Rite.

A neighbor who lives across the street said he didn’t see the child fall but heard emergency personnel arrive on the scene.

“I saw the commotion with that but it took a minute to get clarified on exactly what had occurred,” said Willie Miller. “The response was like ‘wham’ here really fast.”

He has lived in the Kristy Manor subdivision off Megcole Way with his family for about 15 years.

“I didn’t know that it had been a tragedy of that nature with somebody falling out of a window,” he said.

Miller didn’t know the child’s name but did remember seeing and hearing children around the home recently.

“They are one of the few couples around here that have relatively younger kids,” he said.
