The National Weather Service and the Weather Channel have both predicted strong thunderstorms for Cobb County and the metro Atlanta area for this evening beginning around 6p.m.

Although the most severe portions of the storm are expected to hit North Carolina and Virginia, northern Georgia and metro Atlanta could experience several isolated severe thunderstorms, according to Weather Channel forecaster Tom Moore. Moore predicted the storms would last for about 10 to 20 minutes at any given location in metro Atlanta.

National Weather Service forecaster Ryan Willis said the storms are expected to linger around the metro Atlanta area from 6p.m. until 9p.m. “Damaging winds will be the primary threat for this storm,” Willis said. “Hail associated with stronger storms would be the secondary concern.” Both Moore and Willis confirmed that the likelihood for tornadoes across metro Atlanta was very low.
